Melanie Hodge

Centre Manager - Community Kids Deception Bay

"I will lead my team to provide and create an environment where all children are safe and protected."

I began my career in early childhood education and care in 2005 and started working at Community Kids Deception Bay in 2020. I hold a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care, and I’m trained in Child Protection and First Aid. I also have a Certificate in Raising Good Kids by Dr Kaylene Henderson and a Certificate 3 in Community Services.

I bring many years of experience in my role and have worked across all age groups, including Outside of School Hours Care (OSHC). As an early childhood educator, I have learned a great deal in that time and continue to learn.

I particularly love seeing children walk out of the Centre at the end of a day, happy, excited. Sharing with their parents about all things they did, what they have learned, investigated, explored and achieved. Or how much fun they had and how eager they are to return the next day. I believe it is important to provide a sense of belonging where children feel supported and cared for by all educators.

We are an inclusive practice that promotes a sense of security and safety for every child.  We each build positive relationships with the children and their families. We create a home-like feeling within the Centre and give the children a sense of belonging and knowing they can come to any educator for any reason. The children’s physical and emotional safety is our priority.

Our team is made up of loving educators who have been with G8 for many, many years. Some of us have been apart of multiple families lives from Nursery through to Before and After School Care, forming lasting relationships.  Our morning and afternoon family scheduling mean our team can build relationships with every child in the care setting, creating a family environment.  No matter what room they are in.

We understand it can be difficult to be away from your child. That’s why we work hard to ensure the children are as comfortable with any educator as they are with their own, it gives me a feeling of pride knowing we have created this safe and caring environment for all of the children in the Centre.

We offer our parents great coffee, biscuits and fresh fruits during morning drop off and afternoon pick up. We regularly hold celebrations to bring our families together as a local community and to know each other even more. We have a book swap outreach program to encourage reading between families and children. The local library and community donate these books for children to take or want to bring one of their own and swap it. We also have a Parent Food Pantry that enables parents to swap or take ingredients they may need. For example, if they cannot get to the shop in time before it closes and needs an ingredient to make dinner etc.

We understand that starting at a new centre can be overwhelming. From the first inquiry, we make sure that we address all your questions one by one. We will assist you with every step to enable a smooth and easy enrolment process. We offer play dates and provide an open door policy. You can come in and interact with your child’s educators until you are confident and comfortable with leaving your child in our care. You’ll receive an enrolment pack that provides vital information about the enrolment process, staff profiles, our community connections, Xplor information, what to bring on your first day, menus etc. A balloon on a stick, coloured pencils, a magnet and a few other goodies.

From our first interaction, communication and developing a relationship with families is a huge priority. We encourage families to be a part of their Children’s learning by including their input within the program.  We have open nights and events, celebration days, and kindergarten information sessions and, are in constant communication with parents through our real-time online program Xplor daily.

A fun fact about me is that I absolutely love spending time with my family, heading out on weekends to walk our dog along the beach and creating memories with my beautiful kids.
