Emma Whittaker

Centre Manager - Community Kids Bangor

"Ever since I can remember, I have wanted to work with children. They fascinate and inspire me."

I began my early childhood education and care career in 1987. I started working at Community Kids Bangor in 2012; first as an Early Childhood Teacher, then as the Centre Manager in 2014.

I have a Bachelor of Early Childhood Studies (Honours), along with other qualifications.

Ever since I can remember, I have wanted to work with children. They fascinate and inspire me. In my many years of working with children, I have had many different and diverse roles.

I have worked with children from birth to twelve years, from nursery nurse to nanny, to holiday representative, to Centre Manager. It has been a long and varied career and one I do not intend to give up for a very long time!

During my long and varied career in early education, I have learnt how different all children can be, and how they learn.  This has meant changing my teaching styles to adapt to them and how they learn best: by making learning fun.

At Community Kids Bangor, we understand that learning is a lifelong process. It is up to us, as educators to nurture the child's excitement, curiosity and learning. From encouraging creativity, imagination, and respect for others', to teaching children the values and life skills that will serve them throughout their lives.

It is extremely important to all the educators and myself, to have good relationships with our Centre's children and families. I spend time with families explaining the benefits of attending our Centre. I encourage them to read our Google reviews and talk to other parents.

We take pride in upholding the highest health and safety standards and always ensure the children in our care are safe and well cared for.

Here at CK Bangor, we have a dedicated, passionate and diverse team of educators. Several of our staffs have been with our Centre for many years! We take pride in knowing all our educators know all our children and their families. We are such a close-knit team, that it feels like one big family. Families visiting the Centre often comment on how welcoming and friendly our team is -- of which I am very proud.

The best part of my job is my amazing team – they are so committed and positive about their role as educators. The whole team sees their role as being incredibly important. Helping children establish the building blocks for a successful lifetime of learning.

We offer families fruit and bottled water in the foyer for those busy morning drop-offs. We regularly hold celebrations to bring our families together.

We provide a personal tour for families, not rushing them and allowing them time to ask questions. I assist with all aspects of enrolling at the Centre: filling in forms, understanding CCS & Xplor etc.

Families are leaving their most precious thing in the world with us. We understand how hard that can be for families, which is why we offer as many transition sessions as needed for children that are just starting with us.

Fun fact about me: my favourite hobby is to ride my motorcycle. My very favourite colour is green, everything I own is green: my car, my bike, everything!
