Centre Manager - Community Kids Victoria Point
“The way we teach children now, extending on the children’s interest, going natural rather than plastic and sustainability practices teaches the children to look after the planet.”
I began my career in early childhood education and care in 1999 and started working at Community Kids Victoria Point in 2006. I hold an Advanced Diploma in Children’s Services, Certificate III in Health Support Services and a Diploma in Management.
I have always loved my job. It has always been my priority that the children in my care are happy and safe. Now as a Centre manager I instil those same values in my staff. We now have children who attended the centre many years ago now enrolling their own children with us. It is quite surreal!
We have long-serving, team members who come from our local community. Many have been with the centre over 10 years. It’s the sort of centre where everyone knows all the children, no matter which room they are in. We have been together so long it feels like we are one big family.
Every child is protected. We have several safety procedures that we have incorporated into our centre, we believe that we go that extra mile when it comes to safety. We have outdoor checklists that we do daily, ensuring every child leaves with someone we know and that all their belongings are collected, messages have been passed on, soiled clothing collected and incident reports signed.
We are always there for the families. We communicate through Xplor and email and respond quickly to concerns. We have done date nights, Women in Business nights, raffles for parents that are having a hard time with health, support with pick up and drop off times, morning tea packs to take in the morning, half yearly breakfast bars, Mother’s Day morning tea. Grandparents are invited to the centre for special events like gardening days, Father’s day breakfast, Family days, End of year performance night and Leaving Ceremonies.
The enrolment team do a wonderful job getting all the paperwork side of things completed. I just love to take families on a genuine tour where they can come in any time and see us as we are.
