Our centre promotes multiculturalism and is reflective of our community and its needs. Our educators and children celebrate and appreciate diversity in people. Our aim is to provide experiences so that children become successful, competent and capable learners.

Hello and welcome to Community Kids Austral Before and After School Care. My name is Karen and I am the Centre Manager.
A little bit about myself…..I have completed my Diploma in Children’s Services and have had nine years’ experience as an Early Childhood Educator. For the past six years, I have been working as the Room Leader of the 3 – 5 room. However, I have had experience working with all age groups and I endeavour to begin an Early Childhood degree very soon. I also had the role as our Centre’s 2IC.
At the beginning of June 2013, I began my journey as the Centre Manager. Within this role I provide a supportive team environment where I relate to all educators by supporting them in providing a high level of care and education for your child. I believe that teaching children puts a demand on their teachers for a continuous learning and acquisition of knowledge. Therefore, I am keeping my knowledge and our educator’s, up to date.
I believe that each child is an individual and they are capable, observant, competent and creative. Children should be supported to be active contributors to our communities and awareness of diversity should be encouraged. I respect and value family teachings, liaise with parents and foster parent partnership. I believe that social interactions and relationships are important to overall development which helps to develop a sense of belonging and identity. It is important to have positive role models where the children need to learn social protocols including showing respect and honouring diversity.
I believe the children should develop a relationship with the environment with emphasis on care and conservation. Positive self-identity and high self-esteem are vital in giving children a good sense of themselves. These may be further developed when children’s communities are identified and portrayed within the Centre. I believe that everyone is unique and that children need to know that they are loved unconditionally; they belong to a diverse set of communities. I also believe that children need consistency, limits and boundaries as well as to have respect for themselves and each other. Children need to know truth and honesty and the impact they have on others.
One of our main goals within the centre is to display the learning that occurs. This is often represented through individual portfolios, day books, photos or learning stories displayed. Our programs reflect the children’s interests enabling them to achieve the outcomes in EYLF. Our learning environments are challenging and stimulating to maintain children’s interest, sparking their curiosity. Our rooms offer a home-like environment and promote natural-based learning experiences within our developmental curriculum that caters for individual children of all ages.
We offer a high quality Pre-School Program designed to prepare children for the introduction to school life, exposing them to learning experiences they will likely experience in kindergarten. By following the National Early Years Learning Framework the centre recognises the importance of communication and language including literacy, numeracy, social and emotional development.
We have a Petting Zoo where the children are able to see, touch and feed alpacas, chicken and sheep. The children learn about the life cycle of animals as well as their basic needs for survival. We also have a vegetable garden where the children get involved, helping with each stage of planting, using these for our salad at lunch time.
Please contact the Centre or just come in to view our fantastic learning environment.
I look forward to meeting you and your families. I also look forward to answering your questions and discussing your particular needs.
