Kylie Smith

Centre Manager - Community Kids Horningsea Park

“I believe children are central to everything we do. We are creating the future and next generation of leaders in our country.”

I began my career in early childhood education and care in 2008 and started working at Community Kids Horningsea Park in April 2015. I hold a Diploma in Children’s Services and Business Management and have been trained in First Aid and Child Protection.

I believe children are central to everything we do. We are creating the future and next generation of leaders in our country. Here at Horningsea Park, we know that every child is unique and should be treated so, and we facilitate environments that encourage children not only to have fun but learn and grow into their future success.

I believe that each child is an individual and as an educator I value and develop each child's strengths, interests, skills, abilities, and knowledge to extend their learning. I believe that children learn through play. I provide opportunities for children to explore, discover, create and imagine within the environment.

All childcare centres, including our centre, use the foundation of play-based learning to guide our experiences every day. With access to a range of age-appropriate learning resources, trained educators, and new experiences among friends, we set children up to thrive in an environment that is dedicated to learning.

We have long-serving, multicultural team members who reflect our local community. Many have been with the centre over 5 years. It’s the sort of centre where everyone knows all the children, no matter which room they are in. We are such a close-knit team it feels like one big family.

The best part of my job is the team – they are so committed and positive about their role as educators.  The whole team sees their role as incredibly important, helping children establish the building blocks for a successful lifetime of learning.

Our team understands just how important your children are to you and we ensure we take our responsibilities seriously. Community Kids Early Education Centres has extensive policy and procedures in place to assist our team in protecting children in our care.

I believe children should develop a relationship with the environment with an emphasis on care and conservation. Positive self-identity and high self-esteem are vital in giving children a good sense of themselves. These may be further developed when children’s communities are identified and portrayed within the Centre. I believe that everyone is unique and that children need to know that they are loved unconditionally; they belong to a diverse set of communities. I also think that children need consistency, limits and boundaries, and respect for themselves and each other. Children need to know truth and honesty and the impact they have on others.

To support our families, we offer parents snacks and coffee during the morning drop off to save them time.

We understand that starting at a new centre can be overwhelming and encourage families and carers to visit our centre. You can contact the centre or just come in to view our great learning environment. I look forward to meeting you and your families. I also look forward to answering your questions and discussing your needs.
